Changing Locks

By Landlord

• When you move in you can request that landlord have the lock on your door changed. Landlords have to provide this service at no cost to you unless the lock was already changed since the previous tenant moved out.

By Tenant

• You cannot change your door lock unless the landlord has given his consent or you have obtained an order from an arbitrator.
• If an emergency occurs while the tenant is not at home and the door cannot be opened, the landlord or emergency personnel may remove the door by force. The tenant may be held responsible for any costs the landlord incurs as the result of an illegal change of locks.
